Gangxiang Shen received the B.Eng. degree from Zhejiang University; the M.Sc. degree from Nanyang Technological University; and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Alberta. He is currently a Distinguished Professor with the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, Soochow University, China. Before joining Soochow University, he was a Lead Engineer with Ciena Corporation, USA. He was also an Australian Postdoctoral Fellow with the University of Melbourne. He is the author or co-author of more than 100 peer-reviewed technical papers. His research interests include integrated optical and wireless networks, spectrum-efficient optical networks, and green optical networks. He serves as a Lead Guest Editor for the IEEE JSAC special issue on “Next generation spectrum efficient and elastic optical transport networks” and as a Guest Editor for IEEE JSAC special issue on “Energy efficiency in optical networks.” He is an Associate Editor for IEEE/OSA JOCN, and an editorial board member of Optical Switching and Networking and Photonic Network Communications. He is a Secretary for the IEEE Fiber-Wireless (FiWi) Integration Sub-Technical Committee. He received the Young Researcher New Star Scientist Award in the 2010 Scopus Young Researcher Award Scheme in China, the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Award from the University of Alberta, the Canadian NSERC Industrial R&D Fellowship, and the Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship (APD).
